South African Krugerrand
The South African Gold Krugerrand coin is an emblematic figure in the world of gold bullion, renowned for its rich history and prestige as the first gold bullion coin to be valued based on its gold content rather than face value. First minted in 1967 by the South African Mint, the Krugerrand was created to help market South African gold and offer a vehicle for private gold ownership. The coin's name is a compound of "Kruger," after the face it bears, the late South African President Paul Kruger, and "Rand," the South African unit of currency.
