Restrikes from the Austro-Hungarian Empire!
Gold that embodies the gold standard.

This is an 1892 Austrian Gold Coin Restrike that is backed by two national currencies, the Austrian Florin (8) and the French Franc (20). This restrike (1892) is the next mintage date in line of the original series of these dual monetarily backed coins which were originally produced from 1870-1891. These coins are in excellent condition and have quite the low premium!

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains .1867 troy ounces of fine gold.
  • Front obverse side (heads): Portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I with the words "FRANCISVCS - IOSEPHVS - I - D - G - IMPERATOR - ET - REX."
  • Back reverse side (tails): Features the Austro-Hungarian Coat of Arms on the reverse, denotes both currencies (8 FL & 20Fr) and has the words "IMPERIVM AVSTRIACVM," and the mintage date of 1892.
  • Reeds (edges): Reeded.
  • Authentic gold product from the Austrian Mint.

Restrike Coins

While restrikes usually denotes a pre-existing coin that was struck into a new coin, usually changing a monetary value or for some other geographical or political reason, these are more or less reproductions created in our modern era. These are to commemorate the attempt at a unifying money system backed by gold, in Europe, towards the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately, the word "restrike," is misused by virtually all retailers as a marketing ploy but we prefer to be 100% transparent in this matter. Also, keep in mind that the Austrian Mint is actively minting reproduction vintage gold coins of other types and while these still rate a 10 on the cool factor scale and these are still real gold coins, they are NOT minted in accordance with the date on the coin!

While these are not the original versions of these coins minted from 1870-1891, these are great looking pieces, made out of a durable and sturdy .900 fine gold composite that is a true store of wealth without a real worry of scratching or denting these coins (due to the durability of this alloy). These would make great barter pieces and a fine collection to your loose bag of gold coins you keep because your a pirate. Ahoy!
