Geiger Edelmetalle - Family Owned
Geiger Edelmetalle is a family-owned operation located near Leipzig and Stuttgart, Germany. Their first registered offices are at the now famous Schloss Güldengossa building which was construction in 1720. The building itself is a beautifully constructed manor in the southeast outskirts of the cultural center of Leipzig, Germany. The old manor served as the first location where bullion was minted. Geiger Edelmetalle served famous customers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who were quite the stackers themselves.
In recent times, Geiger Edelmetalle still mints custom precious metal bars, rounds and coins. They produce bullion in Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium and Copper. As we discussed in our “Precious Metals 101: Coins, bars or rounds?” blog, coins are defined as a flat, typically round piece of metal with an official stamp, used as money, more specifically a coin is backed with a monetary value by an official world Government. Geiger has been authorized by several central banks and world Governments to produce their bullion that is in fact, backed monetarily.

LEV Mintmark / Hallmark
Geiger Edelmetalle uses the “LEV” Mintmark (or hallmark) which stands for Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung GmbH and represents their wholly owned subsidiary and sister company. Leipziger as it is referred to, is responsible for contract acquisition and can help private and government entities through the entire process from initial design elements to large volume minting and manufacturing of their Precious Metal products.
No mint is perfect, but Geiger is close as they are known for their absolutely stunning bullion products and security features. In fact, when it comes to security features, they are truly front runners in this regard. Most of their bullion has a blue coated dye that is invisible to the naked eye, however, when a UV light is shined over the bullion the center placed LEV mintmark is revealed as well as a unique serial number. The serial number would match the sticker or assayer serial number, helping to ensure the product is in fact a unique Geiger product. They also use security stickers on many of the bullion containers and tubes that destroy themselves when tampered with or opened.

With the same weight and fineness, is one selling company worth the other or can there be substantial differences?
Hi! I didn’t know where else to go. I have a Champagne bucket (Trophy style?) that has LEV Silver stamped on the bottom. I am trying to help a friend find out it’s worth. Doubt we will be lucky enough that it is solid silver, but I have exhausted all searching I can come up with. You were the result of my last search for LEV Silver. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.
